What's the average cost to have a root canal done and is it really necessary to have a root canal done?

Question:
or is there an alternative?

Answers:
Root canals are very very expensive, but its best to just have them pull it, b/c i had a dentist do a root canal on one of my lower back teeth and she moved back to her home country without finishing it and its the worst pain ive ever been in..
Depends on what tooth and whether or not you have dental insurance. Most dental insurance plans do not cover major work at 100% so you'll end up with a copay. In NJ a root canal can go from $600-$850 or more depending on the office. Also remember that once you have a root canal you still need a post and a crown. A post is approximately 250 and a crown can go from $850 and up. Only your dentist can deem if it is absolutely necessary. I worked for a dental office and was told I need one but I feel no pain and until I do I will not do it. If your not in pain you might want to hold off. Root canals are painful and expensive.
about $300 to $400 is the avg price, if you don't want a root canal the alternative is to pull the tooth, the tooth has gone bad and it needs to be there ... so your options are root canal & crown or pulled
The price will vary depending upon where you live. if you sign on to AmeriPlan, you will definately be given at least a 20% discount. you can check out their website for provider info and fee schedules at www.GreatHealthPlans.info. You could always have your tooth pulled.
In the UK, the cost with an NHS dentist is £39.00, and the root canal is only necessary if you really want to save the tooth, if not your better off opting for extraction. Root canals sound scary but are actually usually pain free and most patients don't even need injections as the tooth is already dead.
I have seen them cost as little as $250, to $800, and this doesn't include the crown after wards. If it's a tooth unable to be seen with a normal smile, I would just have it pulled, because they usually come back to hurt again later in life. Spend the money you would by getting it pulled and replaced with a permanent tooth.
