Just got wisdom teeth out on Wednesday?

I had mine extracted on a Tuesday morning, and didn't swell up until Friday. I had a little bruising by the time I went back the following Monday. I didn't do anything to lower the swelling. I just holed up in my house, heh.
wrap an ice pack in a towel and apply it for twenty minutes or so every few hours, it takes a while for the swelling to go down.
That wasn't very wise.
Heating pad and salt water. Dont use ice. Ice is used for the first 24-48 hrs.
Put on cold packs, if your doctor says it's OK to. Actually, if they recommend cold, it's usually 10 minutes on, 20 minutes off, or so. Frozen vegetables in the plastic package, covered with a light towel, are said to be some of the best...they hold their cold really well!!
I say no ice, a nice warm cloth takes the pain away and relaxes the muscles. Ice will take the swelling down but that will make it hurt more.
Keep the area iced, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. As long as the swelling is not extreme and you are not is severe pain, you are probably experiencing normal swelling. If you start having really bad throbbing pain and if yor cheek feels hot to the touch, call the oral surgeon. Take some advil or motrin too. Feel better.
Try heat. A neat little thing my husband did for me is this. Instead of having to use a big ole' heating pad that has an annoying cord that makes it difficult to lay with, get an old tube sock, fill 1/3 full of rice, tie a knot in the top. Put it in the microwave for about 1-1&1/2 minutes. This way, you can just lay in bed, lay the tube sock on your face, and not have to worry about it.
i found that frozen vegetables worked the best for me, 20 minutes or so on worked really well. i didnt have any swelling and i did that every day 20 minutes on and 20 off. and i took advil every 6 hours to help with swelling and pain too.
The microwave tube sock was a good idea with one caveat. Be sure the rice is damp before you microwave it and be sure the sock is wrapped in a towel 1) to keep the wet from you and your chair or bed and 2) so there is no danger of your being burned. The rice will be very hot to be effective and there is some danger of burning yourself.
You can also use a kitchen sponge. Wet it and wring it gently. Microwave for about 1 min. Use tongs or a fork to take it out of the microwave and wrap it in a towel. It should be warm to the touch. By the way the sponge will also be sterilized by this process. A good way to keep them germ free. Remember they will be hot when the microwave finishes but if you just leave them in there until you need them they will usually be clean if you rinsed them thoroughly before putting them in the microwave.
