My teeth are a mess but I'm so scared of the dentist!!?

Question:
OK, I'm 25 and my teeth are a mess. I'll admit now that I haven't really looked after them all that well when I was younger and I didn't see a dentist in a long time until a few weeks ago when I had to go with a terrible toothache.

So I saw the dentist, he said the tooth was pretty bad and I'd need a root canal, he did something to it, put in a medicated filling or something and I was supposed to go to a different dentist last week to have it looked at and fixed properly, but I was really scared and it wasn't hurting so I missed the appointment....

I've had bad experiences with dentists in the past, I had to have quite a lot of fillings in my baby teeth when I was younger and it put me off dentists totally.

Now my teeth are a mess, the dentist I saw a few weeks ago said I needed another 5 or 6 fillings and two rotten wisdom teeth extracted, but I'm absolutely terrified, but can't afford private fees. What can I do?

Answers:
Ok...there are some dentists that may provide you with a light sedative for procedures if you are that anxious about it. So far as not affording that work to begin with, it may take some time to get it all done, but dental schools are a great place to go. The students are looked over by the professors and you will not leave withoput it being done correctly...just takes much longer.
There are new techniques in dental care that help numb the patient's tooth nerve so the treatment will be painless. Its important you have your teeth fixed even if you have to borrow funds for it. Funds can always be earned but loosing all your teeth evnetually is the biggest regret. Go for it!
please go get them fixed =the dentist gives you gas ,so you don't care about what is going on=also tell dentist you are afraid and he/she will explain each step to you and what it is going to feel and sound like
been there=done that
its a necessary evil.

to make it easier, the denty can knock you out pretty well then go through with the procedure.

but in the end, its for your own good (even if it is a little pricey). you DO NOT want to end up with something more serious that ends up with you having no teeth at 35.

and youll also appreciate the experience once its over (ie it wont be as bad as you thought). obviously go to a dentist who has a good rep. so as to avoid any more bad dentist scenarios.

to recap, youre just going to have to bite the bullet (no pun intended) for the well being and future of your teeth, which are extremely important to your body.
