Why don't they hurt?
Question:
How can they be so badly decayed but not causing me any pain??
And what's it like having them extracted? Does it hurt? Would a regular dentist be able to do it?
Answers:
It seems like the decay in your teeth caused nerve damage.
I've had my wisdom teeth extracted; they put me under so that I didn't feel anything during the process. I was sore afterward, but was able to receive medication for my pain.
A dentist or oral surgeon should be able to perform the procedure.
If you need to know how to get this done economically, let me know.
perhaps the decaying has killed the nerve in those teeth =the only thing that hurts a tiny bit is the needle to numb your gums
I would figure if they are rotten and don't hurt. pulling them will be a breeze...
You probably either have nerve damage from the decay (although I would think if that's the case, you would have felt something at some point) or your mouth just isn't as sensitive to pain as most peoples'. If the dentist was able to take pictures of them (if you mean regular pictures and not X-rays), then at least they're not impacted, and removing them will be like pulling any other tooth.
well, you probably have alot of nerve damage, which if it doesn't get taken care of, can cause more problems..
there was a news story about a kid who never went to dentist and ended up dying from a brain infection caused from rotten teeth.. but you are seeing a dentist, therefore it wont happen to you..
i've never gotten my wisdom teeth out, but have had alot of friends who have.. they all ate a WHOLE pineapple before surgery, and said that they didnt have any swelling...
may or may not be the case, but my one friend had only gotten two pulled first, ate a pineapple, no swelling..
went back a week or so later for the other two, no pineapple.. alot of swelling.. so it wouldn't hurt to eat a whole pineapple..
a regular dentist may be able to do it, but they may do it two at a time.. an oral surgen would get all four out, no problem!
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. The teeth did not hurt because the rotted from the inside out. The nerve died because of the bacterial decay and you felt nothing. I'm surprised you did not taste this.
NO, a regular detist can not and should NOT take out these teeth. They are rotten and very weak. They can not be pulled and must be elevated out of the socket or they may break. Having you awake listening to the cracking and feeling the pressure will only make it harder on both you and the dentist. If you go to sleep, you wake up, all over.
If will be very sore for 1-2 days. The achy for 3-7. Follow the post-op directions to the LETTER! Ice packs the first day faithfully. 20 minutes on, 40 off. DO NOT suck on anything! Eat ice cream and other cool and cold very very soft foods only. Sleep with an extra pillow and do not lift or push anything over 10 pounds for 2-3 days.
Bite down on the gauze until the bleeding stops. Change guaze as needed. Do not eat pizza, bagels or any thing hard for at least 7 days.
Most important. After 24 hours begin to rinse will very salty warm water 3-4 times a day and right before bed. This will remove food and bacteria from the socket and sutures and help promote healthy healing.
In the future, let's exam you hygient habits. If you do not want a repeat of this on your other teeth, brush, really well, floss at least 2 times a day. Right before bed is the MOST important. Then ask you dentist for a fluoride rinse and use this at bedtime faithfully. Spit, do not rinse with water afterwards and do this for the rest of your life!! If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
