I have overcrowded bottom teeth... what are my options?
Question:
Other than invisalign what else is there?
It is neccessary to remove all wisdom teeth?
Answers:
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and removing teeth is almost always an option if they are in the way or kicking out the front teeth to look like picket fences.
If you don't like braces you will hate invisalign. It is expensive, you have to wear the trays all the time and they do not move very crowded teeth. They will take your monies and you will not get the results you want in less than 2-3 years.
Braces must have a bracket and wire to successful move teeth that are overcrowded and roots are set in bone. This is something that takes time to get right because your bite has to be set on the upper as well. The trays for invisalyn must be worn 24/7 for something like this and you will really hate it. So those are you options or you can live with it. But will they resolve on their own, never, will you wish you changed you mind and got braces, probably. IMO. Please take seriously with your dentist and have him explain how much better that it and it works faster and quicker. Also if you can stand the pain, teeth can be shifted faster and a retainer placed permanently behind the teeth that no one sees and you will never feel it either. End of story, and great teeth to boot. Now that is the way I would do it and you could probably do it in 9 months or so. How can you beat that? Marie
Why are braces not an option? Your dentist may suggest pulling a few teeth to make room for the others. No it is not necessary to remove all wisdom teeth if they are not bothering you.
The third molars or wisdom teeth as they are called sometimes need to be removed depending on their position and the amount of space you have in your mouth for them to errupt. They can be impacted and need to be removed, an x-ray will tell your Dentist what needs to be done. If your wisdom teeth do errupt, take special care in cleaning and flossing them because they are hard to get to. If your lower teeth have recently started getting crooked, it could be your wisdom teeth trying to errupt and causing them to crowd. As for straightening teeth without ortho tx, I don't know of any way to do that. Go to an Orthodontist and seek his opinion on this, sometimes the initial evaluation if free, just ask.
