Orthodontist question, help appreciated!!?
Question:
i had braces when i was 12, instead of getting them off in 2 years i got them off in 1 year and a bit because i was disciplned and took well care. i was always serious like that, but then i got my retainer and wore it during the day etc etc. a year or so later i was told to wear it at night, and got lazy and didn;t do it anymore. i am 18 and a half now and i still go to the ortho for check ups about my retainer. i am so worried eveytime i go cuz i don;t wear it. but nothing happens. he just says to keep wearing it. he also said that my lower front teeth are a little shifty...uch what do i do? my teeth are straight in general...i hope it won';t come to needing braces again? worst case scenario anyone? thanks...
ps- when i go for chek ups my retainers are tight. i want to wear thgem again but they hurt, what do i do about this issue too? new ones will cost!! and if i tell him they are tight he'll be suspicious

Put your retainers on and continue to wear them. Being tight means your teeth have started to move. Wear them as much as possible, if you don't have too much shifting they will go back with the retainer wear. What about your 3rd molars (wisdom teeth) if you still have them they may be trying to erupt and can cause crowding, but it's probably your lack of retainer wear that has caused this.
Just wear the old ones.. it's your fault for not wearing them. Your teeth will move back quickly and won't hurt anymore.
Just start wearing them again at night only. I am 28 and got my braces off when i was 17. I can only wear my upper retainers because I thought my top teeth were more important than lower. I got lazy and stopped wearing the bottom retainer. i can't get the bottoms in anymore which sucks because my teeth have started to shift.
Within a couple of nights of wearign them you will have no problem. it will be painful for the first few nights, but it is worth it. trust me. you don't want to spend that kind of money on new retainers or worse. . . BRACES AGAIN.
