A couple of days ago i yawned really widely and felt the right side of my jaw crack...?

Question:
i didn't think much of it because it happens often because of my tmj...however, today i look in the mirror and the bottom part of my jaw has shifted to the right when i close my teeth together. it doesn't hurt, although it feels very uncomfortable, my right ear's all swollen although it has gone down...for this kind of thing, should i see my dentist or be going to the doctor instead? ugh and i have to wait til monday...

Answers:
You are describing what happens when the disc, over which the jaw bone glides, has become detached. It wedges the bone and does not allow it to slide back to normal position.
In essences your jaw has locked.
Suggest you consult a maxio facial specialist -dentist with medical education.
I would suggest, limit your attempt to chew, eat only soft foods, when you yawn place each hand over the jaw joints to avoid full opening - other wise it will hurt more.
Warm heat may give you temporary relief.
Depending upon the extent of your problem, there are various treatments. Good Luck.
Go see an oral surgeon with TMJ experience.
i think the best is too see a dentist as most doctors dont know much about the jaws
l had such a problem and l ended being admitted to the hosipital for three days being gaven painkillers and massaging until one friend of mione decided to take me to a dentist and the jaw was back after a short time
TMJ specialist would be the best from there a hospital b/c they could give you better drugs b/c they will probably have to pop it back into place from the sounds. A dentist or doctor could do it w/ anesthetic. TMJ specialist preferred b/c they have all the equipment to know exactly what is going on and how to prevent it.
