Getting wisdom teeth removed!!?

Question:
I'm16 and I'm suppose to be getting my wisdom teeth removed..The dentist was telling me what all they was going to be doing..He was also very clear about them not putting me to sleep..He said all they will do is numb my mouth with needles and he is going to try his hardest to see if my insurance will cover laughing gas for me...Will this hurt more than being put to sleep or no difference at all?..

Answers:
The shots that will numb your mouth will feel pretty much the same as other shots you may have had for dental work. Laughing gas won't put you to sleep, but it will usually make you rather mellow about the shots and during the rest of the process. The amount of pain you feel afterwards has more to do with how hard it is to remove the teeth than how they actually anesthetize you to do it. If your teeth are not impacted and you haven't had them long, it's not usually that bad to remove them. They won't have established full roots into the jawbone yet, and will come out fairly simply. If they are impacted or infected, then it's a bit trickier and can be more painful afterwards. From the sounds of it, yours haven't been around long, and aren't infected- so you may be in a fortunate position. My daughter had two removed using a local anesthetic- the shots. Before we left for the dentist, she had a light sedative pill, just to make things easier for her. The dentist took less than half an hour to remove the two bottom wisdom teeth she had, and we went back home. Her jaw was a little sore, and she used Motrin for it- which worked just fine. She wasn't all swollen and bruised up afterwards at all, and was eating fine the next day. Granted she stuck to softer stuff, and didn't go in for things like tacos- but in just a few days she was back at her usual diet and life was normal. Our son had one that was impacted, which was a little harder to remove. His was done with the laughing gas and local anethetic. The side that was impacted took longer to remove and he ended up with a stitch in the spot. He was more swollen, but still not in really significant misery, and he took Tylenol 3 the first night. By the next day, he could use Motrin. His jaw was also sore, obviously worse on the side with the impacted tooth, as was the swelling. We used frozen peas for that, and lots of frozen/very cold liquids, and he stuck to the soft diet for a few days more. He wasn't too badly off, he was on the phone with his friends and girl friend the second day, and headed out for a movie on the evening of the third. Didn't have popcorn, but otherwise he was okay. I don't think it really matters how they deaden the spot, what has the biggest impact on how it goes afterwards depends on how hard it is to get the teeth out. And your reaction as well- if you can handle being uncomfortable, or how your particular pain tolerance is. The other thing is how well you follow the directions the dentist gives you for your after care. If you follow the directions, you should do fine. If you don't, you will suffer the consequences. The shots themselves aren't really that bad- and the dentist usually uses either a freezing spray or a gel to numb the worst of the gum. People make a lot of todo over the needles, but they are not really that bad or something that will just drive you insane with pain. And you can certainly close your eyes if you don't want to see. If you really are frightened, ask the dentist if he can prescribe a mild sedative to take before you come, if you can't have the gas. If all else fails, just close your eyes. The shots go quick, and really aren't that bad. I wouldn't plan a full social schedule for the next couple of days, but I wouldn't expect to be laid out for weeks either. Just relax as much as you can and just see how it goes. Follow the directions you get, and lay in a supply of your favorite flavor freezer pops and yogurt sticks. And a couple small bags of little frozen peas. Those conform better to your face than ice packs do, and don't weigh as much either. Good luck, you will do just fine.
My brother got his removed. He died of an oral infection. But this probably won't happen to you. Good luck. P.S. go to confession first just in case!
I had mine removed and felt no pain at all
I remember when I got my wisdom teeth pulled I don't know if it was laughing gas or what but I was out. But It was most humerus...they put me in a different room afterwords. And I woke up not knowing where I was and walked around the dentist office meanwhile they were trying to find me. Kinda a hide and seek game. I would definitely recommend something more than just some needles. Oh and do remember to follow the dentist instructions afterwards because you don't want to get any dry sockets...those can be painful. Good Luck!!
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled and they didn't knock me out.the only pain is when the Novocain wears off.it hurts a little bit.if the dentist is good at what he does there will be very little pain.
I had my wisdom teeth out at 17. I have a very small bridge, so they cut all four of mine out at once before they began coming in. I don't know what kind of a difference that makes. I don't know about how much it would hurt without being put to sleep. They put me to sleep. Whatever it was that they gave me felt like they shot fiery flames right through my veins...it burned all the way through my body before I finally went to sleep. Then when I woke up...well, suffice it to say that I was not myself. I was so ugly to everyone...which was not like me at all. Whatever they gave me, I hope I never have it again. That's the only time I can remember being put to sleep hurting at all. And I think it was worse than the pain afterwards. :o( So maybe you'll be better off. But I can only judge by my experience.

Don't worry about it too much. There is pain, but it's temporary. And if they need to come out, there would be far more pain later on, if you didn't have them out now...not to mention that they could push other teeth out of place. You'll be fine. :o)
I didn't get mine removed until I was in my late 20's ... they put me under (to sleep) to do the oral surgery to remove them. They were growing sideways and messing my teeth up pretty bad.

It hurt for some time, about 2 weeks ... then again, I smoke and had dry sockets, which was why I was in pain.
my best friend's sister got her wisdom teeth pulled out
shes 16 too
she took medication after & she couldnt drive
you have to eat soft food.
don't let the first answer bother you at all. I have had mine pulled at the age of 20 put it this way. They hurt coming in more then they pulled them out.I was so relived when they did them all at the same time.
I new my best bud for 10 years before he got his pulled. It led to his death. Unfortunately, pulling of wisdom teeth is all to common a cause of death. God rest his soul.
Either way you are going to hurt. I was put to sleep for mine, and I had major complaications with the surgery as well as the anistesha (excuse my spelling) which made me very very sick afterwards. I would definately say don't take the sleeping route just so you are more aware of whats going on. In my surgery my doctor ended up shoving the tooth through my sinus and lodged it underneath my cheek bone and they had to keep pulling me up and make me do x-rays and kept putting me under, take the safe route!
