Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. The best thing to do is bite on the gauze until you have zero bleeding. Once that happens, the suture is of no concern but to stop dry socket. DO NOT suck or rinse for 24 hours. Once that goes by, start with warm salty water rinses 3-4 times a day, the last at night before bed. GENTLY. This removes dried blood, bacteria and any food stuck to the extraction area. Do this for 1 week. Sleep with an extra pillow and towel if you are still bleeding. DO NOT eat any food. Eat ice cream and cold, cool things. NO straws. After 2-3 days, gently eat soft foods that do not stick. Ice pack (with cloth cover)on every hour for 20 minutes the first 24 hours, then 4-5 times a day after. Do not smoke. Don't spit. It will heal fine.
Now after 3 days, start massaging the jaw and open your mouth like to yawn, don't go tooooooo far. This will begin to lossen up the jaw muscles and stop the swelling and pain. Keep this up. After 5 days you can eat a bit more, but be careful. Keep up the salt water rinses, brush and floss. If you follow these directions, you should be in pretty good shape after 7 days. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie.
Call your doc to make sure but my mouth was all messed up for a while so its probably normal.
It should heal fine. Notify me at evansfriends@yahoo.com and tell me how it turns out.
it should heal just fine -i have had that happen to me as well -except -it wasnt a wisdom tooth -and the stitch broke--just be careful not to chew on that side for a few days -i used hydrogen peroxide -like a mouth wash -and everything is fine now ----good luck-- just check every so often for bleeding --
