What is an orthodontic butterfly?

Question:
Like any other teenager, I'm preparing for braces and my orthodontist told me I would need an orthodontic butterfly put in my mouth before braces. What is it and what does it do?
Does is hurt?

Answers:
I can honestly say I've never heard of anything like that. Sorry.
No devices is called orthodontic butterfly, but he might mean a kind of intraoral removable device which lookslike a butterfly (probably frankle). it is used for extending jaws and teeth arches to achive more space for teeth movement.
