Cavity????

Question:
is it possible to get a cavity on a crown?? and why the outer rim of my crown looks black??

Answers:
It is only possible to get a cavity under the edges of a crown. It only happens if you are susceptible to gum line decay.
You had a porcelain fused to gold crown. That black is the metal showing through. The dentist puts that area just under the gingiva, but if you get a little recession of the gum, it shows. During your check up, the dentist will check that area with an explorer to make sure it is all right.
that could mean a lot of things. go to your dentist. they'll know exactly what is wrong and what to do.
hope that helped!
It's not possible to have a cavity on a crown. What you are seeing is the metal underneath the porcelin. It's perfectly normal and nothing is wrong. Sometimes the dentist has to grind down the height of the crown to get your bite just right.
Good question!!
Not on a crown but underneath yes. You do have a tooth underneath and is able to decay. If you are seeing black rim around the gumline on the cheek side and the tongue side, its a metal collar they put on the crown. Normal. I would check with your dentist though for peace of mind. Hope this helps.
