If you dont dry the tooth before you put the wax on it'll never stick, so you have to dry the tooth really well

Your wires may be too long in the back. You should talk to your orthodontist and ask if he can clip them shorter. If it is only poking your cheeks. If it is all over then this might not be the problem. There is a product called Rincenol that helps ease the pain for awhile. It is a rinse and can be found in most drugstores.
