Types of retainers...?

Question: I'm just wondering why some people get clear retainers and others get the ones with a wire in front. Do you get to choose which one you want? Thanks!

I have had both. I don't remember if I got to choose a clear one, or if they just made it for me. I wish I still had it, but they get lost so easily! I have a wire one now, only have to wear it at night. I am thinking about getting another permanent one! Those are so much harder to lose!

You get the clear ones first, then after a couple months you switch to the wire ones

when i got my retainers they got a mold or something of my teeth and then they gave me the clear retainers. i didnt get to choose
