Is there an alternative for this ??

Question:
a couple months ago i went to the dentist and he said that my front teeth are wearing out he asked me if i had stress, and stuff becuz i guess i grind my teeth in the night, so he made a mold of my top teeth, so then he gave me a guard for the top of my teeth, in order to prevent "grinding" of them over night, so its an overnight teeth guard thing for the top of my teeth, BUT
its really umcofortable and i dont use em no more, my teeth feel so dirty in the morning, even though i brush or anything the spit just builds up..
my question is
I didnt tell my dentist this, but i dont think its a coincidence that my front teeth where he said they are worn out, is where i grind my nails, when i bite them off, i grind em out with my teeth, and right where i do this is where i have the "wear" is it possible it is not cuz they are hitting but cuz i grinded my nails with my teeth?

And is there something else less bothersome that i can put on besides the teeth guard thing he made for me?

Answers:
NO use the mouth guard! If you dont like the one you bought at the dental office then go to your local pharmacy and buy a NIGHT GUARD that is cheap. Try that brand. Maybe it will fit better. And if the dentist made you a TOP mouth guard try the new one on the BOTTOM or vice versa.
talk to the dentist about the solutions and options or seek a 2nd opinion.
The teeth guards are uncomfortable, but they work. However, grinding your nails with your teeth just might be the culprit. You might want to share this with the dentist, so he knows that it might be the reason. He may even be able to help you figure out ways to not do that so you can preserve the teeth. Good luck.
if you grind your teeth, you use 200 pounds of force. it is really bad for them, and may very well be your problem.

also, wash your mouthpiece consistantly if you are not doing so already, it may not taste/make your teeth fell as bad.
Teeth guards work, but are uncomfortable. You just have to make a choice whether to wear them or not. Your nails are not the cause of the wear and tear on your teeth. Nails are too soft to make damage to the teeth. Most people grind their teeth at night and don't even realize it.
