Is it possible to take a nerve pill before going in to Wisdom Teeth surgery?
Question:
I am FREAKIN' out and I am very scared to be put to sleep so I really think I need a valium! But I didn't know if it would interfere with the anestetic.
Answers:
You can certainly call your doctor and have them call something in. Lot's of surgeons give patients an anti-anxiety med prior to surgery. It doesn't affect the anesthetic...it's pretty much just up to the doctor whether or not they'll prescribe something for you. But you won't know if you don't ask, right?
this is a question for your dentist that he can answer fairly easily. Personally i wouldnt' recommend it only b/c you dont know how the reaction to the numbing shots and/or pain shots will react to Valium.
Valium is a very powerful drug and not something that should be taken lightly. For oral surgery you will more then likely be put under so there is no reason to worry. You will be asleep for the entire process. Just mention this to him BEFORE taking any medication. Tylenol or Advil included! The purpose is to lessen the risk of side effects.
no, leave the anesthesia/pain killer dosesing to the dentist!
you don't want to cause a bad reaction or even possible over dose or quite possibly death!
it shouldn't interfere with the anesthetic. but you really have to tell your doctor if you plan to take anything since he might also be using nitrous oxide or something like that.and he could also prescribe something to you to lessen the bleeding during and after the operation. I forgot what the pill is called but you take it before the surgery. My doctor gave me valium before he did my eyelids surgery because he was only using a local anethetic. PLEASE TALK TO THE SURGEON FIRST.
ask him he will write the perscription. I am so scared of the dentist. Between the scary movies and bad experiences I cant stop shaking and I need a pain pill to chill out.
I don't know if they dentist would give you something or not, but it's really not needed. I know you're scared, but trust me, it's not that bad. I had all four of mine removed a few years ago and I was scared stiff. Went in, they put me to sleep and the next thing I knew I was being woke up to go home. I had hardly any pain whatsoever after that, but was in bad pain prior to so it was definately worth it.
Just try to calm down and remember that they do this type of thing all the time and it's not as bad as it sounds.
