I have two black spots on one of my sealants. Help!?

Question:
It is on a molar. They don't hurt and aren't sensitive to cold or metal. I think they are just your ordinary stains. Am I correct?

Answers:
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. If the spots are on your sealants this is a simple stain. If is NEXT to the sealant, get it checked for simple decay. Sealants are not in exchange of brushing so you may have to step up your brushing for a minute more. Here's the rule of thumb. 2 minutes to brush the entire mouth. That means ALLLL the way in the back as well. Brush behind the front teeth as well and stretch to so the same in the upper molars as well. Brush your tongue last and rinse. If you think you may be getting cavities, rinse with warm salt water 1 time a day to reduce the acid in your mouth from sugars and fast foods. I think they are probably stains, but you can tell better with a flashlight and see if they are directly on the sealant or next to it. That will help you for sure. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
