Why do Dentists keep poking my teeth with a metal pick?

Question:
I mean are they simply want to create cavaties for money-making?

Answers:
The instrument you are talking about is called an explorer, it does have a sharp point to it but cannot cause a cavity. The enamel on your teeth becomes soft if it has decay or a cavity in it so if the point of this instrument gets stuck in your tooth then chances are it is a soft spot on your tooth which in all likely hood is a cavity.
:) No...They're not trying to poke holes in your teeth.
They're just looking for weak spots in your enamel or cavities.
No, they are poking to see if there are any tiny holes.
no, he is checking parts of the tooth that look suspicious. if the pick sticks in those spots, it could be a cavity.
