Why is there aluminum foil on the handle of the light at the dentist's office?

Question:
I just got back and I'm really curious about why they do that.

Answers:
Dentists are very conscious about sanitation in their offices. All their tools go through an intense cleaning process every night. You will notice many things covered in the office.
Well... The aluminum foil used on the handle of the light is to prevent contamination of the light handle. While preparing the dental procedure area prior to beginning a clinical procedure, a dentist first considers which items will become contaminated during treatment. Examples of such surfaces include countertops, light handles, X-ray unit heads, tray tables etc. So a dentist uses disposable items such as needles, paper towels, plastic wrap, aluminum foil or pre-made covers and gloves to protect patients.
thats a dumb question.
you should have asked when you were there. I've never seen that before.
The foil is a barrier to keep the handle of the light from being touched by a dirty glove during the procedure. Some offices use plastic, but a few of these handles get hot so foil is preferred. After a patient leaves, the foil is removed and thrown away and the handle is wiped down with everything else in the room.
