Is it too late to start wearing my retainers??

Question:
I got my braces off about a year ago, and the instructions were to wear retainers 24/7, but I neglected to because it's hard to talk with them on. So for the first 6 months or so I wore them only at night, and since then I haven't worn em at all. It turns out my teeth didn't move all that much, but I've heard some horror stories about people having to get braces all over again... so I've decided to start wearing them again. I have em on as I type this, and man they hurt, but what I'm wondering is if it's even worth the trouble at this point.

Answers:
I think it is. the reason it hurts is because the mold of the retainers are the shape of your teeth as soon as the braces came off so your teeth might move back into that position. and the horror stories are true about the people having to braces again. I know at least 2 that did. So wear your retainers!
They re going to hurt for the first couple of days, they are moving the teeth back to where they should be. If you would wear it like you are supposed to it wouldn't hurt and you would learn to talk with it in!
yes, keep wearing them. it is worth the trouble
you dont want braces again do you?
If they still fit, then it isn't too late to start wearing them. The point of the retainer is to keep your teeth in place, if you don't care if they move, you could stop. But if you don't wear them, there is a chance they'll move back to the way they were before you had braces.
oh God yes!
keep those babies on night and day for at least a month!! then switch to just nights... i did the same thing and my teeth jumbled up again... now i have to wear this new retainer to move my teeth back into position.. and the only reason I'm not back in braces is because i found a nice dentist that did this for me instead to save about $4800...
so... go take a couple ibuprofen and keep the retainer on unless you want crooked teeth!
If they still fit, then it's not too late! It's when you can't get them over your teeth any more that you're in trouble. (Then you either start over--new braces/new retainers or else give up). Good luck!
