these days they Will do an e-ray and a check up and call you back for further treatment, there is no need to worry, they are very good . i had a lot off wok done over the past few month and was terrified about going to the dentist as i hadn't been in a number of years now i can honestly tell you , its well worth it.
a few x-rays -- everything else will be explained based on the state of your teeth, and they'll make a new appointment for later.
They put a metal hook on your teeth to test how hard your enamel is and also use it to scrape tartar off. The dentist will probably ask you silly questions while there are five zillion instruments in your mouth to try to distract you from the discomfort, to which you can only awkwardly grunt answers.
if you have a nice dentist a free toothbrush and some stickers. and dental floss if your are really good.
root canals, teeth pulling, fillings, caps, x-rays, pain
Nothing to be scared about thats for sure.
They should do x rays of your teeth and a visual inspection (where the dentist looks at the teeth and pokes around on them with a small pick looking thing). They should do the x rays first, then the hygenist will clean your teeth, then the dentist will come in to look at them.
slight gropings
1.a bright light in your eye
2.cavity check up(and if you have one, not very pleasant)
3.scheduling next appointment
4. Dental goody bag
Theres a whole lot more if you have problems with your teeth
I'm a dental assistant-when you go in, they will get all of your medical history. If you have a heart murmur you need to tell them up front, because you're cardiologist may require you take an antibiotic prior to having your teeth cleaned. If you are going for a cleaning, they will use an ultrasonic scaler to gently remove the tarter from your tooth surface. It doesn't hurt, there's just a lot of water. They will also floss your teeth. They also do a perio exam in which they use a perio probe that has notches in it to see if you have any gum or bone loss. Periodontal disease is where you have receeding gums and loose the bone that holds your teeth in. They also do a full series of x-ray 18 and a panoramic. If you've had x-rays recently, take them cause insurance only pays for a full series every so often and a pan every 2 years. If you have them, they usually just take bitewings. If it's just a cleaning, they use a little pumis like grit and clean with a low speed handpiece like the electric toothbrush by oral b. If it is a procedure they numb you with a local then with lidocaine or novacaine. Or you can choose to have a twillite which is laughing gas if your dentist offers it. It wears off quicker and you don't have the feeling numbness throughout your entire face. They can also use a painless drill which is done with a lazor. And for root canals, they often use sonic instruments to make them quicker and to ensure they removed all the root. If you have any more questions, let me know.
