I have a bad toothache that is causing the whole side of my head to hurt. It keeps me awake at night.?

Question:
I am waiting for my insurance from work to kick in and I really cant afford to go to the dentist(especially when they all require payment up front) I have tried the emergency room at the county hospital and the treatment they offered ( antibiotics and naproxen) didn't help at all. I returned and was turned away. does anybody have any suggestions to help me through the next couple of months until I do have my coverage? Please!!

Wow Perfect, my heart goes out to you. It must hurt. You can put clove oil on/in it. This is available at a drug or health food store. Also, wet a tea bag in hot water-like you are going to make tea-let the bag drain and place it in your mouth, over the area. This will slow down swelling and help with pain.

Even though you think the Naproxen isn't working, stay on it-the best it can do is take the edge off the pain. Pain is something you have to stay on top of versus try to catch up with, if you know what I mean. People in chronic pain understand this idea. You may also check into what is the maximum dose you can take and for what extended amount of time. Over the counter drugs often list the dosage much lower than you actually can take ( I believe they do this to avoid problems with reactions for people who are more sensitive to drugs).

Also you can buy Mack's Wax (ear plugs). You can form them into a shape to cover your tooth area so you can drink cold drinks but don't swallow it or sleep with it in your mouth please.

As time wears on the pain may go away as the nerve dies. One more idea is to call two dentist and explain your problem. You may get more ideas on how to deal with your suffering or you may find an angel on the other end of the phone who will make things possible for you NOW. Try it, what could it hurt-think about what it could possibly not hurt. There are angels out there just waiting for you to ask!

Good luck my friend.
There is state help! Visit your local health department, and let them know this is an emergency. (Our state offers emergency assistance) If you don't qualify, then you can find a dental office which offers payment plans, OR there are now dental credit (cards) which can help.

You shouldn't wait 2 months to get this taken care of...it sounds like it could be serious.

I wish you the best of luck...
get a higher dosage maybe... whats the dosage of the naproxen? maybe u should get a higher one..maybe a 500mg dose. what they gave u are the standard for the pain... try applying ice on one side to relieve it a little... the headache is psychological, we call it "referred pain". i hope these tips helps. :)
