Lemon juice through a straw not hurt enamel?

Question:
I was wondering, for health reasons, I'm drinking lemon juice (from the bottle) mixed with water, and I'm using a straw. Do you think it can still hurt my enamel?

Answers:
Drinking juice through a straw can protect teeth, if the juice is swallowed from the back of the mouth and does not stay near teeth.
No, if your drinking reasonably.
If you are worried about it, you may rinse with a solution of baking soda diluted in water to neutralize the acids. Don't brush for several hours afterward to give your enamel a chance to remineralize and harden up again. Whether you are drinking out of a straw or not, you are changing the pH of your saliva and your mouth. The more acidic the environment, the more of risk for enamel breakdown.
