Anybody know of insurance that covers kids under 18 that pays or or part of the cost of getting braces?

Okay the story you have probably heard 3 million times. My family is poor my, my dad doesnt work much, and I have a stay at home mom. Im 15 & my teeth are crooked and I "want" braces...my dentist also said I have TMJ or something like that and braces would be a good idea. Its no medical emergency and it isnt threatening my life. Does anybody know ware my family could get insurance that pays for or would pay part of the cost of getting braces? I live in Alaska...and I know some programs are only for people that live in certain states. PLEASE HELP. It would mean alot of you could tell me anything about this.

AFLAC does, but you have to pay the premiums for Orthodontics for two years before you can use it. Most of the time crooked teeth and TMJ are not life threatening or considered "Health" issues, so they are treated as elective and not necessary. You might need to see what kind of coverage you do have and maximaize that. I am 44. Have the same crooked teeth and the same TMJ since I was a kid too. We got a remodled house and a new kitchen instead of my brother and I haveing proper ortho work done. I swore that once I inherit their house, I am getting my teeth fixed after I sell it. But anyway, Some people have orthodontic insurance available to them through different carriers, but it is not cheap. There are many different agreements between insurance carriers and their subscribers, and each contract provides a different benefit. Orthodontic insurance, however, generally differs from regular dental insurance in that each insured member or the family usually has a lifetime maximum benefit for orthodontic services. There are often age limitations. This benefit is paid as a percentage of the orthodontic fee (diagnostic records, initial fee, monthly payments, etc.) until the benefit maximum has been reached.

My daughter had Orthodontic insurance available through her dad's insurance plan with Tricare through the military. She had to have a lot of work done that totalled about $10,000. They paid about $4,000 of it and I paid $6,000. So, it usually does not cover everything. You might have to get a job and start saving. It is not cheap and it is not easy to come by insurance that will pay for much, that is for sure!
