Just got my dentures?
Question:
I understand that my gums are still tender underneath.. but I'm trying to adapt to them as quick as possible.. so I made some eggs earlier..I couldnt even chew them correctly..It felt like I was chewing on my inner cheeks..and my mouth isnt even numb..Is it always gonna be like this..when I chew? Or is it just becauses im still sore..or maybe afraid to use full pressure while chomping down..Also how can i reduce my swelling..dentist says salt water rinses..but i need specifics..i know the tanic acid is good.
Answers:
Sorry for your pain. Don't be trying to eat solids for a few days, even a week. Drink malts and milk shakes. Buy several and freeze them. Don't chew. Four times a day, swish-gargle-spit with heavily salted warm water. It will get MUCH better soon.
I'm a dental Technician who works in a clinic where all we do is extract teeth and make immediate dentures for the patients.Welcome to the world of Dentures my friend. The pain will only last a few days to a week tops.Keep those dentures in your mouth for a good 24 to 48 hours. Let those sockets clot. The bleeding should sustain. Liquids will be your only source of food for now.Try in a couple of days to eat solid foods again. If the pain or bleeding persist return prior to your post-op visit,or to the emergency room.Good Luck.
It will take some time to get used to your dentures. The swelling will go down eventually. Then you will need to go back and have your dentures adjusted. Eating with dentures is not as easy as having your own teeth. And make sure you ALWAYS keep them clean. They will smell horrible if you don't and you could end up with lesions. Call your dentist if you have any other questions.
been there just about 2 months now, i ate lots of jello it was soothing and helped to keep some of the swelling down ,but it takes about 8 weeks to get used to eating ,soups/soft things,yogurt/puddidg ice cream /shakes, i found that i could do peanut butter and soft toast if i broke off the bites but its still hard to make a bite/take a bite out of a sandwich, its like the dentures need to be sharper,lol..good luck
It will take you a while to get use to having false teeth. They are not like your natural teeth. You will bite your lip or cheeks until you get use to having them. You mouth knows that you have a foreign object in there. You may also have a lisp when you talk. We tell our patients to practice talking by reading out loud. The swelling is normal and you should stick to a soft diet for a few days or until you are not so uncomfortable. Good luck and I hope that you get use to them soon.
