Is it safe/adviseable to gargle with salt water if you have bridges?? Will it damage the bridgework.?
Question:
Answers:
Yes, it is safe to gargle with salt water even if you have bridges. Metals used in dental work are purposefully made from stainless steel or other materials that won't rust or tarnish due to salt or other common materials put into mouths. -- think about it this way, if it was to damage it, soup would be off limits as well-- most soup has salt in the broth.
And as for the porcelain, there would be no reason that the salt would damage it.
However, If you are having problems with mouth sores or other inner-mouth irritation, a good option that may work better than salt water is a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. It will aid in healing any irritation, and prevent infection and inflammation by killing germs and bacteria, all while not damaging any dental work. I use one that really tastes quite good- sort of a mix of vanilla and mint, by Colgate, and it should be available at your local pharmacy.

Just don't soak salt in your mouth for more than 2 hours a day ... which i don't think anybody can hold on to that long.
