Are root canals painful?

Question:

Answers:
Root canals are not like they were several years ago. If your tooth is infected and you are already having pain then you should be put on antibiotics to clear up the infection. When they remove the nerve of the tooth you should feel alot better because the nerve is what is infected. When the numbing wears off the tooth may be a little sensitive but it should not be very painful. The pain that you feel before you have the root canal done hurts alot more than after the root canal. Good Luck with your tooth.
Yes, very painful!
Not really. if the endodontist is good you don't feel too much.
Not while the procedure is taking place, but once the drugs have worn off.yes they are very painful...my advice, stay as medicated as possible all the time!
Not unless they give you novacaine or drink some Vodka or Whiskey after lol.
i had a root canal done recently and it was uncomfortable but not real painful. close your eyes when it's being done. i watched what he was doing and it was pretty freaky.
During the process, no because they numb you up. Afterwards, a little when the numbing goes down. The next day? Not really, just dont eat anything hard and take Ibuprophen!
Not when done by a competent Dentist. If your Root Canal is painful...change Dentist. The most I've ever needed was One or two Prescription Tylenol.
No they numb you with drugs, Now the Panama Canal was painful, do you know how many people died, and how many were injured?
It depends on your dentist. I was so afraid of dentists for years, because of a bad experience. I lucked out finding a new dentist when my front tooth broke off, using 1-800-DENTIST. I needed a root canal before they could put in a permenant crown. These people are gentle & caring. Plus they offer 'laughing gas', which I highly reccomend, and ear phones. I hardly felt a thing!
While they are doing the procedure you will be numb, so
it won't hurt. If you have a lot of infection in the gums, it
might be harder to get you numb, so it might hurt more
because you might need several injections. And afterwards
you may have some pain, but they will either give you a
prescription for some pain meds or you will take Advil or
Tylenol, so it will be ok as long as you take your meds on
schedule. It will hurt if you let yourself get into pain before
you take anything, so take it before it hurts...
Yes.
It seems to be painful for some afterwards. Not me though.

It wasn't painful for me at all after the event. The nerve *should* be gone. So you shouldn't feel anything afterwards.
Root canals are the narrow, hollow passages inhabited by nerve tissue and blood vessels, among other things, located within the dentin of a tooth. The root canal ends in, and in the case of multiple canals, join at, the pulp chamber. In dentistry, a pulpectomy is the initial stage of endodontic therapy to cure an infection of the root canal; colloquially referred to as a root canal. Endodontic therapy, possibly coupled with internal bleaching, is also used to fix teeth that have discolored because of infiltration of decayed soft tissue into the dentin in the teeth, most often seen in anterior teeth that have been injured through a sudden impact.
I had two done today at the same time, and was really nervous for nothing. You'll only feel the pinch of the novocaine shot, and that's it! I was done in 40 minutes. Now I feel very little pain, controlled by ibuprofen. Honestly, it's not worth the stress & anxiety. Ask your Dr. if you can take halcion, an oral sedative which helped me a lot. You'll feel tired and sleepy, which helps the nerves. It really was a piece of cake!! The pain after is nowhere near the amount of pain I had with the abscess. Good luck, and don't worry!
