A sealer?

Question:
my daughter is getting a sealer put on her teeth what excactly is it? is like a gel or what?

Answers:
Hi, americanangel519,

As the above people have mentioned, the sealer prevents decay. It is a special varnish and they are very effective, I must say.

I have never had fissure sealants, but seen many have them and many who have had them for many years.

It is a very simple procedure and normally take a few minutes.

The dental team will prep the tooth, sometimes meaning running a drill over the tooth surface to roughen the surfaces. They'll then place a weakend acid onto the tooth which is washed off after around 10-20 seconds (etching gel, as it is referred to, is also used to roughen the surfaces), they'll then put bond on the tooth to allow the sealant to stick to the tooth (bond is similar to glue, for example), they will then use a curing light (blue light) to set the bond, then they will put the sealants on the teeth and once again use the curing light to set the material. Your child can then leave the surgery.

Generally, no anaesthetic is needed, but I have witnessed cases where it has been necessary.

Keep smiling,

IC.
I think that it prevents cavities.
Ok. A sealent (if that's what you mean) is a white liquid they brush on to the tops of teeth to seal them off. That way, less cavities occur. It's not painful, and it dries; it's more or less like a filling, only ones that cover the teeth. They may feel a bit weird, if there's too much put on. But, it's a very good decision to have it done! I've had them put on my teeth! =}
It is either clear or white liquid, about as thick as nail polish,
(we use white in our office) that we paint on the grooves of
the molars on kids and teenagers then we harden it with a
UV light. It helps prevent cavities way down in the grooves
where kids don't always brush well. We call them sealants,
maybe your dentist calls them seals or sealers...
they put white gel on your teeth and then shine a blue light on the teeth, I recently got them, Iit doesn't hurt at all, and I was nervouse but the nurse did it to my finger first, and I felt nothing, and Im glad I got it cause now I have a smaller chance of getting cavities! Wish your child luck and Reasure he that it doesn't hurt!!
