Tooth Filling/Mercury Question...?
Question:
Also, I don't see any more amalgam in the tooth. I thought before that there was still a little amalgam there. Can it melt or did I swallow it? If I did swallow it, should I worry?
Please take it easy on me. I know they may seem like stupid questions but I don't really know much about fillings, etc.
Answers:
The material they use inside a root canal is called Gutta Percha, it's orange in color and is rubbery.
You really should see your dentist and get this tooth restored, and consider getting a crown to protect the tooth. You've already completed the most expensive part, the root canal, you might as well finish it wth a crown.
What your seeing will probably be Gutta percha, this is what dentists use to fill your root canal. If you have swallowed a bit of amalgam dont worry it wont harm you.
they call it a cone.. it's a rubber insert that goes in the root canal..
As these other people have said, what you are feeling is the material that is used to seal the areas where the pulp [nerve] was when you had your root canal. This needs to be protected from the oral environment or it will begin to leak and there's a good possibility your root canal will fail. Make an apt. immediately as it appears that you will need a bonded buildup and then a crown. This will set you back $1,000 but if you don't get it done soon you will end up losing that tooth that already had a bunch of $$$ spent on it for the root canal. Good luck!
go to dentist and let him pull it out! bye bye!
