I'd love to know too, as my father is suffering from the same for the past 5-6 months. There has not been a day, without the painful ulcers in his mouth and tongue. He has been to all the possible doctors, taken medication and even gone to a faith healer, but noone can figure out why. I'd be glad to know the answer, too.
canker sores are caused by a virus similar to to the Herpes virus, and resides in the body constantly, flaring up when ones immune system is weak.

I get them when I am not eating properly.
I find if I have Marmite, (yeast extract) it helps to clear them up, probably because of the B vitamins in it.
If you dab some Bicarbonate of Soda onto them it helps clear them quicker too.

Ulcers can be formed due to various factors.
- viral, bacterial, fungal,
rupture of vesiculo-bullous lesions., trauma, stress, idiopathic, etc.
Depends on the symptoms, how long, how often, where in the mouth. Then only would you be able to find out which type of ulcer it is.

i have a few teeth that are a little wonky and when i eat i often bite my lips. they always delevlop into ulcers. I thought it was when an injury gets infected!I am probably wrong tho. im sure they are caused by many different reasons.
I hate them though!
