How is teeth polishing work?

I just had my teeth deep cleaned and I was told to come back next week for the dentist to polish my teeth. I never heard of this method before, how does it work and what does it do to your teeth? and btw, does it hurt? Do i have to be numbed for this?

Will the actual slim shady please stand up?

It's just a very fine abrasive powder which is applied on a buffer, (electric) and this gets rid of any stains which might be there. Normally you would not need any injections to numb the pain as there is none. Just the whirring noise of the buffer and the teeth get a little warm thats all. The dentist could use several grades of abrasive powder depending on the severity of the stains. Some of the powder is as fine as talcum powder and you won't even notice it apart from rinsing your mouth out and a fine set of white pearly teeth afterwards.

It's a "buffing" technique, similar to applying car wax...
It involves round "brushes" (buffers), in place of the regular drill...

It doesn't hurt, unless you have sensitive teeth, because of the friction...

G'd Luck!!
