Dry-socket & smoking.?
I had a tooth pulled yesterday, and they told me not to smoke because it could cause dry socket. Well, I'm very addicted, and I can't go three days without a smoke. So, other than quitting, what is the best way to minimize the chances of dry-socket while smoking?
gettin a tooth out! after effects!?

OK, here is what I did when I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. I cut most of the filter off my cigarettes making them much "easier" to smoke. It eliminates some of the "sucking" you have to do and makes it more like a straw with less restriction. I told my oral surgeon I was going to smoke and this was his suggestion. He also said to take very short puffs and not smoke the entire cigarette. Believe me, if you cut most of the filter off you won't even want to smoke more than half. It must have worked, I had no dry sockets. Hope this helps.

Gum growing inside tooth fracture?
Have someone else smoke sitting next to you and blow it your way. I kid you not, DO NOT smoke. Dry socket is horrible! Don't drink out of a straw either.
I know it's going to be rough (it was for my daughter as well), but you REALLY, REALLY don't want to experience that ! I had it once and was probably the worst mouth pain I ever went thru. Perhaps (and this is just a think about it thing), now would be a time to start quitting? Have you tried any of the nicotine gums or patches??
Wisdom tooth removal. Any philosophy on what this could be?
A dry socket could cause you death if you do not watch it. The nerve canal is open and exposed... You do not want anything to get into that. You could end up with severe trauma if you smoke. I am a smoker and when you are told not to do it, then do not. It is not worth your time, nor health. Pick up pretzel sticks and hold them and take a puff off of that.It works. This may be God's way of getting you to put them down for good.
There is nothing that is going to minimize your chances. I have been a Dental Assistant for 6 years and I have seen many dry sockets. They hurt like hell and it will take alot longer for your gums to heal. So I guess you are just going to have to take your chances. I smoke so I know what your going through. I hope everything works out for the best.
