Why don't people wear those silver caps anymore?

Question:

when i was little( in the 90's) when i got a cavity they would put those silver caps on them. My cousin and I were talking the other day about how we don't see kids wearing them anymore? Why not? I know it's silly, but I'm curious.

They just fill kids cavities like a grown ups. They even have different colors of filling material that they will put in baby teeth with cavities It's better protection for the permanent teeth underneath (the cavity can spread to the permanent tooth if not taken care of completely)

The silver crowns are still used. they are used when a cavity becomes to large to be fixed by a filling. I do at least 5 a day on kids.

Now they put porcelain in there for cosmetic reasons..Thank God that they do...that was so ugly!

They do.at our office thats all we put on kids. Unless it is a permanent tooth then we can do the porcelain crowns. Also, some adults prefer them, they even like the all gold ones too. They are about 100 dollars cheaper. I am not sure...I definately like the porcelain crowns better!!
