My tooth cracked in half?

I was eating several weeks ago, and I just bit down really weird, like my jaw was off course or something, and it hurt really bad. But after a few days it felt better, but after about a week, the gum swelled up, and it started hurting. My dad said it was an infection, and that if I went to a dentist they would just poke a hole with a needle, and so I did it myself. I just poked the very top layer of my gum, and the swelling went down. But like a week later I woke up, and there was a big crack through my tooth? What can I do for it until I can get to the dentist? What will the dentist do, because it is permanent?

Dentists can make your tooth look brand new like it was yours if it needs to be removed. I would highly advise not to poke your own mouth anymore with any type of object. Dentists have sanitized tools (that prevents infections). Get to the dentist ASAP and they will fix your teeth professionally.
Meanwhile, if you were my family member I would have you rinse your mouth out with Hydrogen Peroxide (don't swallow). Make sure your mom or dad is with you and knows your doing this. It will help swish out bacteria. (It will foam white so don't worry, it supposed to do that) Even better... call your local 24 hour pharmacist (Walgreens) and ask to speak to a pharmacist and see what they recommend. They might have a better idea until you can see your dentist. The sooner you get in the fewer problems will develope.

You will either need a root canal, or your tooth will need to be pulled. Get to the dentist asap. Infections in your mouth can cause big problems. My friend had an infection and the side of her face swelled and was purple. It went away(2 weeks) after she took anti-biotics they did a root canal. Your teeth have nerves in them and grow from a root. When you break you tooth you need to get to a dentist asap. If you have an infection you might need to get your tooth pulled depending on how bad it is. It's probably an abscess, you need to get the dentist ASAP because it can spread into your bloodstream. People have actually died from abscessed teeth. If the abscess is in your gum, it won't be a big deal and they will just drain it. If it's in the tooth, you will have to get a root canal. It sounds to me like this tooth will need to be extracted. A split tooth is not something that is going to be restored. You also have an abscess in there that is eating the bone away from around the tooth. This problem needs to be addressed ASAP so bite the bullet and call your dentist today. After the extraction, you can either have a little tiny one tooth partial denture[cheapest], a fixed bridge [involves cutting the teeth on either side of the hole], or an implant and crown. The last one is the best as it's most like a real tooth and doesn't involve any cutting of other teeth.
