Help take the fear away from a 7 yr old that has already had 2 bad experiences with a dentist?

Question:
7 yr old wont let dr work on him after he gets his shot to numb him.this is his 3 dentist .denist wont give meds to relax him to help.now they say they will have a diffarent dentist come in and my son will see him and the will forceable do the work on him.what do i do?

Answers:
The bribe thing might work but I'd suggest finding him a new dentist. I don;t know if you're already doing it, but they're are plenty of dentists who specialize with children and have toy set ups and are funny and non-threatening and make the child feel so much better.

If you're already doing that or can't do that I would go with the bribe thing. I know it's not easy to rationalize with a seven year old but you're going to have to get through to him some how or he is going to have to be forceably worked on.
buy him stuf?
Let them do it forecable? on him he'll get over it.
I use to cry also, when i was around 7-10 lol and im 13 now but what my mom did was she brought me a toy i would want like.. a barbie and hold in front of me and say if i do a good job i get the barbie and we can go to your favorite place to eat it workeedd! :]
Try making the trip to the dentist a game. It may help him to calm down if the dentists looks at your teeth first. This helps him to build confidence before the dentist works on him. You can also find a good child friendly dentist who can help his visit into a game. I would not recommend forcing him to let the dentist look in his mouth unless there is a dyer need to. Just put in the time to make his experience fun and less scary.
Make him understand that the dentist is only
trying to help him--and you might want to get
your son to meet the dentist's kids, if he has
any. If your boy is bright, he'll eventually learn
to relax, all right.

Good luck.
Change to a pediatric dentist or one that specializes on cowards. Please do not let this clinic traumatize him any more, Change dentists immediately.
well try giving him stuff like toys and stuff but don't make it look like your bribing him.
poor Lil guy.he's terrified, and they will terrorize him even more. you need to find a real kid's dentist that takes the time to relax him. Our dentist is a kid specialist, who spent 1/2 hour showing the kids around having them check out the tools, taking digital pics of their teeth, joking with him, let them see other patients getting work done, "counting" their teeth and never once scared them, he did the work on the next appointment without any freezing. Get a new dentist
Perhaps offer a reward...I know alot of parents dont agree with bribing their kids to do stuff, but this is an important issue. Maybe offer to take him to his favourite place to eat, play, ect
Change dentists. I know that a lot of them will strap the kids down, and lock the door, and not let the parents know they are torturing the kid by simply forcing the work on him/her and not letting him be comfortable. Your child will grow up with severe mental illnesses if this continues.
