My children both got braces today? Help!!?

Question:
They are both complaining of soreness. I knew this would be a case as I was told that at the office. I have been giving them pain reliever every 4 hours as told by the office. I was not shown nor told how to help them with the braces, only given a sheet to explain it to me. My son is 14, daughter 11. Both know how to use the floss and start and I have been and will continue to make them brush their teeth after each time of eating. However, I need to know if they are supposed to floss between each wire and bracket every day or just (as my son said) where something was? The papers only say to floss once a day but don't specify. Sorry if this is a dumb question but it has been a very stressful day and we are all exhausted. Please help if you can...

i got braces a little over a year ago and for about 2 weeks it really hurt to chew or even bite down on anything. for the next couple weeks have them brush softly and not put too much pressure on them. it will take a while for ur mouth to get used to the pressure on ur teeth. however after a couple adjustments your teeth get used to it. try to eat a lot of ice cream and jello, a lot of soft foods. and take pain killers. it will hurt but before you know their pain will be over so don't stress. also about the flossing you don't have to floss everyday, try 1 or twice a week however you should swish with the Phos-Plur rinse every night so ur kids don't get white-spots when the braces come off, cuz their is no way to get rid of them. before you know it they'll have straight teeth and since ur spending a lot of money on the braces you should be condemned cuz it takes a lot to spend $10,000 on ur kids when you could use it for something else like a vacation or something. it will pay off and ur kids should be grateful that you were willing to spend so much money to improve their smile. their pain will go away soon but try to be as comforting as they can and reassure them that they'll get to eat soon. Good luck with ur kids braces.
This is NOT a dumb question. My teeth killed when I got my braces and I was 28 at the time!

Get that wax that molds to the braces, that will really help keep the braces from rubbing inside of their mouths and causing sores or pain. The aches & pain should go away in about a week. The orthodontist of your pharmacy should have it. It's very pliable and will really help.

Flossing once a day, probably evenings is best.
no this is not any bad thing at all,it is just the sorness that they get because they are not used to them and thats what its like when you get braces
You have to floss every single tooth and bracket
Soreness will happen when having them put on. Also, its going to happen every time they get them tighten. Anything with ibuprofen should help the pain. Give them anything thats cold and soft, like ice cream or a smoothie. It helps the pain. They should brush there teeth just like how they use to. i didnt do it after everymeal but i did floss every night before bed. floss at every tooth because theres junk hiding behind every tooth lol. My docotor gave me this special tiny brush. it went between my braces and it helped removing stuff out that my regular tooth brush didnt. i hope i was any help.
I got my braces on 10 years ago, as an adult, I still have a permanent retainer. The best material I found for flossing is called "Super Floss". It has one end that is like fishing wire, then is fuzzy, then is like normal floss. This should be used between each tooth at the gum-line. You can also buy an Oral B super flosser, which is electric (rechargeable) and has a replacable pick type end. I use both depending upon how hard it is to get in-between my teeth. Electric toothbrushes are pretty good at getting the food out between the wires. In addition to pain reliever, you might offer the kids sugar free Popsicles. They help with the swelling and pain. I remember many days only being able to eat macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes and gravy. Braces are difficult to get used to, but it won't take long before they are back to eating you out of house and home again.
Yes braces do hurt, but the discomfort should improve after day 2. Use Tylenol or other pain reliever, and keep them on soft foods (yogurt etc.) They do have to floss between each bracket because plaque will adhere to anything in the mouth and cause problems.
Get a sonicare toothbrush for them...it helps alot.. Also get a WaterPick to help them keep their teeth clean.
Once a day, between every bracket and tooth. It's no different than flossing your teeth normally, only you have something to work around now.

As for the pain: Orajel is magic with sore teeth. And pain killers. Since your children are both under 20, don't give them aspirin. Now they might complain in the coming weeks of the insides of their cheeks and lips being irritated by their brackets and wires. Have them put the wax right on those spots on the brackets.

Make sure when they brush that they clean ALL the food particles out from around their brackets. It can lead to bad breath, or in worst case, the bacteria from the food decaying will eat away the glue on the brackets and they will have to have them replaced, making for more visits, pain and longer treatment.
Yea.. keep giving them tylenol. they need to floss every tooth... but everyday is a tad extreme..don't try to force that on them.. it won't happen... A good investment would be a water pic..it shoots water and gets a lot of the stuff you didn't even know was on your braces off!!
