My teeth hurts! What can it be?

Question:
My teeth hurts on my new fillings. Is this normal? I took x-rays and they say it cannot be a root canal or cavity. Why does it hurt?

Answers:
it hurts because you just got a filling.
perhaps it needs to be ground down more.
perhaps you just have to give the fillings time to settle in and allow your mouth to get used to them.
I worked for a dentist for years and this is normal after you've had new fillings. The dentist has introduced something foreign into your body. I would try sensodyne. It's awesome.
When you have work done on your teeth, it effects not only the teeth (nerves and all), but the tendons of your mouth as well. Your dentist could have screwed up, but give it a couple weeks. It could just be tension on your mouth created by the work they did.
it may be infected.
You probably have inflammation around the area where they worked, or around the nerve. This will not show up on an x-ray. Take Aleve or moltrin, and use a desensitizing toothpaste for the next week. It will get better. Use the Aleve everyday for about a week , usually 2 tablets, twice daily. If you develop new signs, like the pain is getting worse, or your face swells, seek medical attention asap. as you have developed infection and that can be serious. Also note, I believe if they are white fillings, this is more common.
Sometimes it takes time for your body to adjust to the recent changes. It could be an infection like maybe a stuck food particle. You may want to floss and maybe rinse your mouth with Hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide has a kind of a weird taste to it, but it helps get rid of any infection if any.
When you have a tooth filled, it disturbs the dentinal tubules.that is what the inside of the tooth is made of under the enamel. It's what most of the tooth is made of. It can also cause inflammation around the tooth at the gumline if the filling extends in between the teeth. It can also cause a pulpitis (inflammation of the nerve) which with either go away or be a chronic condition.) You can be sensitive to to cold, hot, or have a general achy feeling. It generally will go away after a couple of weeks. It should get less and less sensitive as time goes by. If it doesn't get better and gets worse, then you may have an infection of the nerve which needs immediate treatment.
