I had a root canal 7 months ago and now the same tooth hurts??

Question:
The tooth where I had the root canal performed started to hurt badly a few days ago and now the whole left bottom of my mouth bloody hurts inlcuiding the gums. Whats wrong? I brush 5 times a day, floss twice a day and listerine 4 times a day?!?! Nerve infection?!?!

Answers:
It can be an infection. When a tooth has been root treated the nerve is removed so you will not feel the pain when the infection first sets in but when the pressure builds up then you can feel it. You go back to your dentist he should prescribe some antibiotics and it should clear up. If it comes back quickly then the root treatment has failed and it is not a good idea to have a lot of antibiotics in a short space of time so the only option left is to have that tooth taken out. Do not thin k the worst when i say that as if the infection does not come back that quickly the tooth can remain in your mouth for years. For the pain now take ibuprofen to help with swelling or inflammation. Depending on what tooth it is also depends on if all the canals were found a molar tooth can have from 3+ canals, premolars 1-2 canals and incisors and canines 1-2 canals.
Yep, it is an infection. Could be that it is failing. I have two that are and get infected all the time. You will need to have the dentist look at it to see why.
They could have left a little infection in the root of the tooth. You must get an appointment to have it seen to in case it turns into an abcess. Hope you feel better soon.
Assuming that the root canal was completed and a crown or cuspal coverage filling was placed, it seems as though the tooth will need a detailed re-evaluation by the root canal specialist.

Sometimes it is impossible to locate and sterilize all canals in an infected tooth during a root canal procedure. Molars are especially tricky in that they can have upwards of 5 canals and curved roots. Dentists do their best to locate all canals and treat them appropriately. In severely infected or badly broken down teeth, root systems can be permanently damaged. Dentists treat the areas to the best of their ability in hopes that the pateint will get many more years of service out of the tooth. Of course, the patient has to take responsibility for keeping the area healthy and completing any needed procedures on the tooth (such as a crown). If a crown is not placed soon after the root canal, tooth fracture is a significant risk.

You should see your dentist and get an evaluation, xrays, etc. You will either have to redo the root canal or explore other possibilities. Tooth fracture is a possibility, along with a periodontal (gum) issue. If the inflammation/infection is severe enough in the surrounding tooth, you can see changes and damage to the gums adjacent to the tooth in question. If you see an abscess or a pustule/bump on your gums near the tooth, this is a sign of an infection. Be prepared for the worst but hope for the best. If the tooth is fractured in the root system, extraction is usually the only option.

Good Luck!! You can take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications to reduce swelling and relieve mild pain.
the root canal treatment,
was not succssfull, so you need to go back to the dentist
the tooth where root canal was done shouldnt hurt as no nerves however sounds like an infection in the gum somewhere. my daughter had similar problem as the crown had come loose. u need to get it checked by yr dentist or if u cant get an emergency appointment then try yr out of hours emergency service where u live.
