Is this an abcess or sign of cancer?

What is it and what should I do?

Have you had your wisdom teeth removed? If not, it may be an infected wisdom tooth (this causes an abscess)... that seems to be in the area of where your wisdom teeth are too. Go to a dentist or an oral surgeon in any case.
By the way, an abscess is NOT usually a sign of oral cancer. Do you smoke or chew tobacco? If not, that makes your chances for oral cancer even lower.

It looks like your wisdom tooth is trying to poke through.

looks like you are getting things trapped back there. If your back tooth just came in a peice of your gums may still be over the tooth. If things are getting trapped, you need to get it cleaned out. Try rinsing with warm salt water, and brush really well back there. If it doesn't go away see your dentist and they can get it cleaned out for you.
Pretty sure it looks like you are getting a wisdom tooth.
