Widsom tooth removal recovery question!?
Question:
My boyfriend got one wisdom tooth out on Tuesday afternoon, and it's Saturday now. He's still got alot of swelling and pain. We've been really really good about not doing anything that would give dry socket, so what should he do? There's a solid lump in the swelling that takes up most of the space in his cheek (not the gums).
Answers:
After I had my wisdom teeth removed, my swelling didn't completely go down for about a month.. ( i think that the doc injured my jaw during the procedure and didn't tell me about it) I had a really hard time opening my mouth for a month and couldn't eat anything that I had to open my mouth wide for a long time... I had so much swelling that my jaw was square for a couple of days and I looked like that kid from the movie mask ..I also had a hematoma in my cheek that lasted for a week or so... it was right in the center of my cheek and was hard and was a little larger than the size of a silver dollar... it eventually went away as did the swelling and now Im good as ever... I had it hard, its not usually like this according to most other people that I have talked to that had it done.. If he has concerns, you need to notify the doc and see him asap... hope this helps..
sounds like an abcess and infection call the oral surgeon back right away...
He needs to call the dentist. He shouldn't have swelling or pain like that after this many days.
I had mine out on a Friday and was back to work on Monday with no problems.
i was good to go on monday after a friday removal. i'd get it checked, sounds like things may not be going correctly.
just put heat compressions on the jaw and swith with salt water
Is he running a fever? If he is he should see a doctor as soon as possible. Or Call the dentist that took out the wisdom tooth. I had all four of mine pulled at once and I did not have that problem. Yes I was in a lot of pain but I did not have that much swelling. It could be infected. Did they give him antibiotics to take? If that does not get better reals soon make sure you get in touch with someone. Good luck! I hope he gets better real soon.
This answer is right up my alley cause I myself just had 2 of my teeth removed almost 3 weeks ago, and I know what your boyfriend is going thru. I can tell you that the swelling should go away in about two more days, due to the trama that he went thru swelling is normal and nothing to worry about, but if in 5 days it has,nt gone down Id call my dentist, a few days before my extraction I was under the impression that it was gonna be no big deal, but let me tell ya it is, I was swollen and ached for 6 days, it,s no fun, but as long as theirs no dry socket hes gonna be fine, oh and tell him to be careful while brushing his teeth cause I made the mistake of hitting my extraction during brushing and It started to bleed a bit, so anyway lots of luck and keep in mind this will pass.
OUCH! I remember when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. . .I had all 4 at once. He may have an infection. Use a an ice pack to bring down the swelling and try to do warm salt water rinses every hour to wash away the bacteria. It is disgusting, but it will help. Is there packing in where the tooth was. I recommend seeing a doctor just in case there is an infection. . .he does not want that. . .trust me it probabaly hurts enough already, you don't want an infection on top of it.
I had all four of mine out two summers ago, plus my last 5 baby teeth, so I had more swelling and pain than he should, but with just one tooth, that should all be gone by now! It took me just over a week to stop looking like a chipmunk, and to be able to eat solid food again. Call a dentist or the oral surgeon that did the surgery...that's not right!
