Am I brushing too hard?
Question:
Answers:
Brushing too hard doesn't remove enamel, it rubs off the gums. That's why you should use a soft bristle toothbrush. The explorer dentists use don't remove enamel, it's to remove tarter (hard plaque) and to find cavities.
i bet its a scam so youll go back to the dentist
It doesn't scrape off enough that you would ever notice. Brushing normally will not take off enamel.
good question. i say brush how you do and let the dentist do there job they know whats best and if your doing something wrong theyll tell u. its all good =]
no..ur getting the stains off
brushing to hard, or with a medium or hard bristled brush shouldnt take the enamel off your teeth, but it can cause your gums to recede. Use a soft bristled tooth brush, brush in circular motions, and always use it horizontally instead of vertically to help prevent your gums from receeding.
I have also heard that brushing too hard ruins your enamel, but I think it's more of a wives' tale. My dentist did not verify either way when I asked him the same question. He said acid exposure and grinding are the prime culprits for enamel damage.
The people I have known who brush hard have great teeth. My fiance and also my brother's girlfriend have never had a single cavity. They go through tooth brushes like no tomorrow. It makes your gums very strong too. It's much better than not brushing at all... though to avoid any "injuries," make sure you brush with a softer bristle brush. Next time you visit your dentist, be sure to ask!
