Shouldn't swelling be gone?
Question:
Shouldn't it have gone down my now. The meds are pretty strong.
Answers:
what is causing the swelling>?? if inflamation antibiotics have nothing to do with it. Gotta have more info to give you a good answer
each of us is different. it may take a little longer for your body to absorb the puffiness.
are you taking a steroid like prednisone? that decreases swelling, but antibiotics/painkillers won't. consult your doctor.
give it another few hours then call the dentist...depending on if you had an extraction and where the tooth was located, there could be swelling for a few days, as it's more caused by the trauma of the extraction than anything really wrong! If it was a wisdom tooth, expect longer...dental work is darn painful! The other suggestion could be the anti's your on...you may be having a mild allergic reaction. Definitely check with your HC professional in a little while if not seeing an improvement. Hope you feel better :)
Hi,
Anti biotics are issued in courses, until you have taken the whole course I would just wait and see.
I had a tooth infection and at the end of the anti biotics course I was still suffering pain, reduced, but still there.
The dentist explained that the anti biotics would have helped kick start my own imune system, to kill the infection, and that I should just take a pain killer.
He was right, two days later I was fine.

The reason you have a swelling is because there is an accumulation of persistent infection. The antibiotics helps your immune system to combat the bacteria but you usually see a difference by the 2nd or 3rd day. The main thing is that you should be getting out of discomfort beffore the swelling goes down. If the medication doesn't seem to be helping after this contact your dentist because you may need an additional antibiotic. This occurs rarely.
Good Luck
Yes, it should be down by now if you have taken 3 rounds of antibiotics. Everyone responds differently to each antibiotic b/c it depends on the bugs causing the infection and whether or not your antibiotic is effective against those bugs. You need a different antibiotic. Even if you have been through 3 one of them should have put a dent in this thing, if not, you need something different. It is not healthy and can be dangerous to have that much infection.
The medication to be applied should correspond to how complicated the disease is. Such is the pain you are suffering from a bad tooth. It needs an exact amount of medication not so strong, not so light to avoid the unexpected results - the negative effects.
