ask your dentist if they take payments. you can pay every month. most places offer this.
yeah, Murphy's law. You save for something and something else comes up. Darn Murphy! Somebody shoot him. lol
Anyhow, If you meant to type $2000 then that sounds about right. I have had a few root canals done and also friends have had them done too. So far, the experience has been that the tooth ends up being pulled after a while anyhow. Much cheaper to have it pulled that root canal. Dentist's fight pulling but just remember . IT'S YOUR MOUTH AND YOUR POCKET BOOK!
Was the $2000.00 the cost of the root canal and the crown. If it is tell him you want a filling put in instead of a crown. If the dentist balks at this find a different dentist. I have had root canals with a filling put in and they are fine. The one crown that I had put in has given me nothing but trouble since day one. Also if you want the crown check in to care credit. Most dentist offices offer it. It is a medical credit card. My dentist offers 1 year interst free on it. It can also be used for vet bills, plastic surgery and other medical procedures. It is great to have for emergencies.
Seek a second opinion - the cost for the root canal sounds about right - but plenty of dentists will tell you that you need a root canal when all you need is a filling. (they make more money on root canals)
Wow Jan? That's along ways away to be in such pain and by then they might not even be able to save it... Ive had three done and they would have cost just as much but thank god i had insurance. Talk to your dentist and see if you can wait until Jan to get it fixed or will it be too late. If you cant take the pain you should def get it fixed. Life is so great huh it seems like when ever your saving or waiting for something somethin comes along to delay or ruin your plans, hope you get it worked out.
hi holly
sorry about this! the best advice i can give you, is take this to the insurance company, and tell them "hey im hurting this is emergency! if u dont comply and help me out here, i will have to take legal action" and if that doesnt work, REALLY GET an attorney. med insurance is SUPPOSED to be there to help you! u cant help it if u have an emergency! tell them u will take legal action for wrongful suffering!
Unfortunately, that's what a root canal/crown will cost...that's pretty average.
But...there is a treatment called "open and med". It's the starting process of the root canal, and some dentists will perform this service to get patients out of immediate pain. It's a temporary fix to the root canal...but it won't mean you're out of the woods!! The decay MUST be removed completely, as well as the tissues/pulp (which is what a root canal is).
Insurance usually covers this treatment...but call your dentist to make sure. (It's a fraction of the cost of a root canal).
Best of luck to you!
First -- you health comes first. To vie for some vacation over that of your health is likened to comparing a mere embryo to a man of great strength.
Never, ever put place your health at second tier -- never.
Second, negotiate that you can pay installments.
Short of this solution, however, the health factor must win...
