Post-operative tooth extraction question.?

Question:
Is it true that you should not smoke for 24 hours after getting a tooth pulled? I have an appointment for a molar next wednesday. They are putting me to sleep for it due to an infection, so I'm hoping I'll be pretty out of it for the whole day so I don't have a craving.

Answers:
Girl, I used to smoke and I had a tooth pulled, and they preached to me about NOT smoking. It could cause a dry socket (which is WORSE than any toothache you ever had!) So please don't smoke!! To be honest I really didnt even want one after I had mine pulled, you just won't feel like it, you will wanna lay down and watch movies all day lol

Good luck, I go next month to be put to sleep to get 6 teeth taken out!! (4 wisdoms and 2 molars!)
yes, smoking right after dental surgeries increases your chances for dry socket (Alveolar osteitis)
i am a smoker myslef and im telling you to get some patches in preperation. You will have a raw exposed gum- cigarette smoke will likley flare up the infection you already have. Also, you might find they wont extract the tooth while an infection is present... you may need a course of anti biotics to clear it up prior to your dentist visit. Good Luck :-)
Marla, You can do what ever you want!
