Braces change your face noticably?

Question:
When I was 14 i went to an orthadontist and was told i needed braces for two years, as I had never had any comment on my teeth before and considered them fine i wasn't that keen and my mum wasn't either as the man was very pushy so i went for a second opinion privatly and she said i needed them about 2 out of 5 and it would be a retainer then train tracks top and bottom for an overbite although my top teeth are straight she also said it would change my face shape moving my jaw forward.
I left it for the time being but my Mum said she would take me back when i'm a bit older to see again, but just asking anyone else has it changed your face shape at all? And is it noticable. Because thats what would put me off.

Answers:
Not so radically that you'd notice in the mirror, shape wise. What it will change is that your upper and lower teeth will meet in the front instead of top hanging over the bottom. What it really comes down to is how you feel about the way you look now. If you're comfortable about yourself as is, there's no need to change. But if you'd really like to see a difference in your smile, go for it.
If you have an overbite, braces will definitely change your face. I don't see how that's a bad thing though. I had braces when I was 38, and my face did change, but I looked better, not worse. Go for it!
well orthodontic treatment or any treament is done for the better not only aesthetically but functionally aswell ! as far as ortho treatment is considered its always advisable as early as posiible because the more early the more quicker and better results in ortho treatment you can get ! orthodontics is the stream which pays a lot of attention to looks as it is concerned with aesthetics and its more concerned with ehancing peoples looks as well as making them functionally correct so there nothing to worry about your looks after completion of the treatment as it will be definatly better than what you have right now and functionally good aswell ! yes after ortho treatment your look will definatly change a little after getting your overbite corrected but it will be good , so dont worry and go ahead !
Yes, but your face always ends up looking better.
