I have an abcess tooth...had beginning of partial root canal...still in major pain...any home remedies??

Question:
ive had an abcess tooth for a couple months. it took me a while to get enough money for the dentist but i finally went 2 days ago. they removed my old filling and cleaned out some of the infection and put some medicine inside and put in a temporary filling.. the pain is now worse! they gave me antibiotics and 10mg vicodins but its still throbbing so bad. i have been using anbesol and ibuprofen as well. does anyone have any other suggestions? my tooth is throbbing along with my heartbeat..why is that? the pain is driving me insane.

Answers:
I don't have an answer for you on what to take to give you more relief, except to caution you about what other medications you might mix (interactions) with those Vicodin.

Since Vicodin is an Acetaminophen Hydrocodone, if you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much Acetaminophen.

An overdose of acetaminophen can cause serious harm. The maximum amount of acetaminophen for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day. Taking more acetaminophen could cause damage to your liver. One Vicodin tablet may contain up to 750 mg of acetaminophen. Know the amount of acetaminophen in the specific product you are taking.

Obviously, check with your dentist as soon as you can and follow his suggestions, he might increase your dosage or switch you over to something else more effective.
(Does he have a weekend number where he can be contacted if you feel your pain and discomfort is that severe?)
You could Gargle with a warm salt water solution, that will help draw out the infection. DO NOT swallow anything that comes out of the abscessed area you will get VERY sick. I would go BACK to the dentist (or at least call) and tell them what they did has made it worse. They probably won't charge you for fixing the problem that they made worse or they might simply give you a stronger antibiotic! I know the pain you are feeling and it is horrible!! Try putting a cold compress on your face (or heat--whatever one feels better)! I hope you feel better or you at least start to get some relief!! Lastly, if you can't afford to go to the dentist...call your nearest university and see if they have a dental school...you can go there and get treated by the students (supervised of course) for a reasonable price!
Clove oil will deaden the pain till you can get back to the dentist but follow up with the dentist b/c you have to get the infection and problem or it will get worse. Clove oil is sold over the counter w/ out a prescription. Sometimes you can find it near Solarcaine and like products in a drug store, otherwise ask the pharmacist for it. Trust me they have it, and in the "old days" before novocaine, that is what dentists used to do dental surgery.
