Has anyone had their canines shaved blunt?

Question:
I think my orthodontist shaved down my canines so now they're blunt like my second from the front teeth. I don't remember him doing this, I just noticed one day that they've gone blunt. Is this common? Why did he do this?? Is he allowed to do this? I was very upset about it for some time.

Answers:
A dentist is not allowed to reshape your teeth without having informed consent from the patient. If, in fact, what you say is true then you have a case of malpractice [not the suing kind]and it should be reported to the state dental board.
mine are blunt too, but I grind my teeth in my sleep, so it's my handiwork!!
Mine are blunt too, but I think it's probably from having braces, the sharp tip must have worn away from rubbing on the brackets on my bottom teeth.

I don't think it's possible that you wouldn't notice/remember your orthodontist "shaving down" your canines, I think it's much more likely that they've worn down either from rubbing on the bottom brackets, or from grinding your teeth in your sleep (which you may not even be aware of).
