Who has had a dry socket after a tooth extraction?

Question:
I got one, and was wondering what treatment your dentist used and how long it took to heal up

I think dry sockets are more common than the dentist leads you to believe

Answers:
You're right in that they probably are more common than we are lead to believe.

I had them after having all my wisdom teeth extracted. I had to go into the oral surgeons office twice a week to have these thin, long, yellow strips of bandage packed into the holes. These protected the socket and provided relief; I think they had a topical analgesic on them. This lasted a month or two (it was 12 years ago).
dry socket are rare if: your surgery was atraumatic, your teeth and mouth are clean, you take care of the wound after surgery, you do not smoke. The younger you are the less chance for dry socket. your body healing power is better while you are younger. The more gentle your dr is the less chance for dry socket. Gel foam and dry socket paste inside the hole should take care of it. TFairy
