Root canal that has fractured - tooth needs to be removed and inplant done - Is it urgent to remove the tooth?

I assume a crown was never placed on the root canal tooth. So, if the tooth actually chips or breaks now you have a very sharp surface that will cause cheek and tongue lesions if rubbed against. Also, you risk introducing bacteria into your system with a broken tooth.
Hi! I would remove the tooth immediately. If the tooth re-infects it will cause bone loss and this can compromise the success of the implant. As it is, you may have to wait for the area to heal before an implant is done, so the sooner the better. It it not uncommon for root canaled teeth to become brittle and break which is why restoring the tooth soon after is important. One other possibility is to "sink" the implant when the Oral Surgeon removes the fractured tooth. Only h/she can tell from an xray if this is a viable solution. This would save you 3-4 months and you could have a "new" tooth in half the time. Just a thought you may want to speak to your Surgeon about. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
