Inlay tooth question?
Question:
I then had loads of pain in my face, i was told it was an infection ,I went back and was told there was some nerve tissue still left in .The dentist drilled a hole in my new tooth and did a root canel filling , I was then charged £180 .00 + £20.00 for a perscription I was not told about ..I thought all this should have been one FREE considering the pain and he had not cleaned the tooth out properly in the first place!!. I still had more pain after this ,while i was on a cruise holiday for two weeks, by now i was well p***ed off,so i went to another dentist when i got back ,who told me there was still some inflamation in my face ,but should go back because there was still treatment to be finished on another tooth of which i had part paid for. After complaining ,my dentist had me in for another 1hour 30 minutes ,drilling this same tooth IS THIS RIGHT ??I STILL HAVE TOOTH WITH A FILLING..

I have not seen the tooth or its X-rays so I am in no position to give you my professional advice. I just think your dentist need to inform you more about the procedures so you are more aware what he's doing.
Here is what I think it happened: let's say you had a cavity. Your dentist removed the decay and put a filling there. However, maybe the decay was too deep or trauma caused by removal of the decay causing an irreversible pulpitis... the filling failed and you had an infection which might have been an abscess (that's probably the prescription is for). So your dentist started a root canal on that tooth. He probably started a pulpectomy which is removal of the inflamed pulp nerve tissue. Keep in mind that it would be close to impossible to remove 100% of the inflamed nerve. Also know that root canals usually require one to two visits not including any follow-up visits. I am not sure if your dentist had finished the root canal before your cruise. Your pain could caused by pressure buildup happens between visits or there is still some inflamed pulp nerve tissue.
You will probably need a post/core and then a crown after the root canal. If you still don't trust your dentist, go to another for a consultation.
Very often it takes several appointments to complete an endodontic procedure (root canal). You are always going to have a prescription and most often two. You are going to need another restoration after this. I am sorry for the bad news. There are most often multiple canals in a tooth and each one has to be meticulously cleaned and shaped and sealed. This is not an unusual amount of time.
