Who can take braces off besides an orthodontist?

I am considering veneers and I have had braces for 7 years, I have not been to the orthodontist for a long time, and was just wondering if the cosmetic dentist will be able to remove my braces. Im sure they have the knowledge and tools to remove them right? Especially if Im going to be spending thousands and thousands of dollars at there office! Please help. Any info would be great!

You have it exactly right. All dentists have the knowledge and tools to remove braces. Some don't do it very often.
You are an interesting case. I would think that the dentist might want to remove the braces before deciding exactly what needs to be done in the way of a treatment plan. And I know it has to be done before some other decisions can be made. Please be patient if the dentist has to think a bit.

Not all dentists have the tools to remove braces. You do not say if the dentist that is doing the Veneers is a specialist who only does crowns, bridges, veneers. If so then I am guessing he probably will not have the tools. You can call the office and ask

i don't think they can take your braces off. That is what the orthodontist is for. And i don't think they have the tools or anything like that. And lets suppose that they do know how to take your braces off i don't think they will do it because what if something goes wrong then, its bad for them.
